Work twice as fast. Stay tenant-locked. Pass every exam.
ABT configures Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Cowork for banks, credit unions, and mortgage lenders: personalized per role, governed for regulators, and audit-ready from day one.
Copilot Chat versus Copilot Cowork: what ABT configures for each
Microsoft 365 Copilot is now two different experiences in one subscription. Treating them as the same thing leads to a confused rollout. ABT configures both deliberately, per role, for your institution.
The AI assistant in Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel
Ask it a question, get a draft, pull a summary from your files. Copilot Chat is the conversational surface your people will use all day. It is only as good as the instructions you give it and the data you let it see.
- Role-matched custom instructions per employee
- Saved memories seeded with institution-specific context
- Work profile verified in Microsoft Entra ID
- Enhanced Personalization posture documented
- Agent pinning and @mention setup per department
The agentic workspace for structured, multi-step work
Cowork takes multi-step actions across email, files, Teams, and calendar with per-step approval. It is personalized through skill files, not settings. Without the right skills installed, it acts like a generic assistant. With them, it works the way your institution works.
- ABT starter skill library installed per user
- House-style skill for voice, format, and accuracy rules
- Meeting-briefing and email-triage skills configured
- Role or department skills added for lending, compliance, and operations
- Copilot Credits budget documented before enablement
The readiness and governance gaps ABT closes before you go live
Most institutions turn Copilot on and hope for the best. ABT finds and closes four categories of gaps that become exam findings or data incidents when left open.
Over-permissioned data
Copilot surfaces everything the user can already reach in your Microsoft 365 tenant. If files are over-shared or permissions are too broad, Copilot finds the problem before your examiner does. ABT runs a permission review before activation.
Missing sensitivity labels and data classification
Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels tell Copilot what it can and cannot do with a document. Without labels, Copilot has no guidance. ABT configures Microsoft Purview Information Protection and establishes a classification baseline matched to your regulatory posture.
No policy enforcement on Copilot behavior
Enhanced Personalization, the Frontier program, and agent governance are off or open by default. A bank or credit union needs each setting documented and its decision recorded. ABT configures the admin center posture and hands you the runbook for the exam file.
Memory governance gaps no one else discloses
Copilot memory is not covered by Microsoft Purview retention policies. Memory actions do not appear in the Purview audit log. Custom instructions are not yet eDiscovery-discoverable. Data subject requests for memory require a manual process. ABT documents all four gaps in writing before you go live, so you are not surprised by them at your next exam.

ABT's readiness evaluation reviews your permission model, sensitivity label coverage, admin center posture, and governance gaps. Delivered in writing. No obligation.
Four phases from assessment to governing Copilot for the long run
ABT delivers Copilot readiness as a structured engagement with clear phases, deliverables, and a runbook your team keeps after the engagement closes.
Assess: Readiness evaluation and gap report
ABT reviews your Microsoft 365 tenant: license posture, permission model, sensitivity label coverage, admin center settings, and the four memory governance gaps. You receive a written gap report before any configuration work begins. This is the starting point for every Copilot engagement.
Configure: Copilot and Cowork setup, per role
ABT configures Copilot Chat with role-matched custom instructions and seeded memories for each employee group. ABT installs the Cowork skill library and any role or department skills your team needs. Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels and data loss prevention policies are set to match your regulatory posture. Agent governance and admin approval gates are established.
Train: Champion enablement and role-based how-to
ABT trains one or two power users per department first. They model safe, productive Copilot use for their colleagues. Role-based guides cover the specific workflows your team runs, not generic AI advice. Your team leaves the training knowing what Copilot can do, what it cannot do, and what they need to verify before acting on its output.
Govern: Runbook, policy documentation, and quarterly review
ABT documents your governance posture in writing: the four memory governance gaps, the agent approval policy, the data classification baseline, and the manual process for data subject requests. You receive a runbook that answers the exam question before it is asked. ABT checks in quarterly to update policies as Microsoft releases new Copilot features.
Premium tier: per-customer Copilot personalization
For institutions that want Copilot to know their specific workflows, loan products, compliance posture, and regulatory relationships, ABT builds a per-customer configuration layer. Custom agents, department-specific Cowork skills, and for mortgage lenders, the MortgageGuide Loan Guidelines Agent with a per-institution overlay. This is the configuration your team cannot get from a reseller.
The Microsoft 365 partner built for regulated financial institutions
Anyone can sell a Copilot license. ABT makes Copilot work safely in a regulated tenant. That is a different service, and it requires a different partner.
Tier-1 Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider
ABT manages Microsoft 365 tenants for more than 750 financial institutions as a Tier-1 Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider. Delegated admin access means ABT can configure your Copilot settings directly, without requiring your IT team to be in the room for every step.
Deep familiarity with FFIEC, NCUA, OCC, and the FTC Safeguards Rule
ABT works exclusively with financial institutions. Our team knows the FFIEC IT Examination Handbook, NCUA cybersecurity expectations, OCC guidance, and FTC Safeguards Rule requirements. Copilot governance at ABT is designed to answer the exam question, not just the vendor question.
We tell you the things Microsoft does not put in the sales deck
Copilot memory is not covered by Purview retention policies. Memory actions do not appear in the audit log. Custom instructions are not eDiscovery-discoverable. These are not edge cases. ABT discloses them in writing before you go live so your board and your examiner are not surprised.
Frequently asked questions
Copilot Chat is the conversational AI assistant built into Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel. You ask it questions, request drafts, and pull summaries. Copilot Cowork is the agentic workspace that takes multi-step actions across email, files, Teams, and calendar with per-step approval from you. Copilot Chat is personalized through settings and custom instructions. Copilot Cowork is personalized through skill files stored in your OneDrive. The two surfaces do not share custom instructions, saved memories, or chat history, so ABT configures each one separately for your institution.
Microsoft 365 Copilot is safe to use at a regulated financial institution when it is configured correctly. The risks come from gaps your institution creates: over-permissioned files that Copilot will surface, missing Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels that leave Copilot without guidance, and governance gaps in Copilot memory that are not yet covered by Purview retention policies or the Purview audit log. ABT closes those gaps before you go live, documents each one in writing, and delivers a runbook that answers the exam question. An unconfigured Copilot rollout carries real risk. A properly configured one is audit-ready.
The Copilot readiness assessment covers five areas. First, license posture: confirming which users have active Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses and which Copilot features those licenses unlock. Second, permission model: identifying over-shared files and folders that Copilot would surface to users who should not see them. Third, Microsoft Purview sensitivity label coverage: checking whether documents and emails are classified so Copilot knows what it can and cannot do with each one. Fourth, admin center settings: reviewing the Enhanced Personalization posture, Frontier program status, Cowork enablement, and agent governance policy. Fifth, memory governance gaps: documenting in writing the four areas where Copilot memory falls outside current Purview retention and audit coverage. You receive a written gap report at the end of the assessment.
ABT configures Copilot memory governance by first documenting the four current gaps in writing: Purview retention policies do not apply to Copilot memory, memory actions do not appear in the Purview audit log, custom instructions are not yet eDiscovery-discoverable, and data subject requests for memory must be handled manually using Graph Explorer and eDiscovery tools. ABT then sets the Enhanced Personalization posture in the admin center to match your institution's risk tolerance, either confirming it is on or intentionally disabling it for a stricter posture. ABT defines the manual data subject request process for memory and documents the agent-approval policy so your team knows exactly what happens when an employee asks to clear or review Copilot's memory of them.
You do not need to move your entire Microsoft 365 subscription to ABT to start the Copilot configuration engagement. ABT can assess your tenant and deliver the gap report under a project arrangement. However, for the full configuration and ongoing governance service, ABT needs delegated admin access to your Microsoft 365 tenant. The most complete and cost-effective path is for ABT to manage your Microsoft 365 tenant as your Tier-1 Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider. Institutions that manage their Microsoft 365 through ABT get the Copilot configuration, quarterly governance reviews, and, on certain plans, Copilot included at no extra cost or at a bundled rate.
The readiness assessment typically takes one to two weeks depending on the size of your tenant and how quickly your team can complete the permission review. The configuration phase, which covers Copilot Chat custom instructions, Cowork skill installation, Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels, and admin center governance settings, takes two to four weeks for a mid-sized institution. Champion training can run concurrently with configuration. The full assess-configure-train-govern engagement typically completes in four to eight weeks. Institutions that add the premium personalization tier, including custom agents or the MortgageGuide Loan Guidelines Agent, should plan for additional time depending on the scope of the agent build.
