Your AMB Database Is the General Ledger for Every Loan You Touch

AMB (Accounting for Mortgage Bankers) from Advantage Systems is one of the longest-running purpose-built accounting systems in mortgage banking. The product launched in 1991 and runs on a Windows Server plus SQL Server back end where every transaction is tracked at the loan level. That loan-level architecture is what separates AMB from generic platforms like QuickBooks or NetSuite. Your AP, AR, and general ledger are not just departmental ledgers. They are the audit trail of every loan your team has originated, sold, retained, or serviced.

Where AMB lives is no longer a back-office decision. The database holds borrower NPI, vendor master data, payment history, branch and loan-officer P&L, and the tax records that flow into 1099 reporting. Under FFIEC, NCUA, FDIC, or OCC review, that environment lands inside IT general controls, business continuity, vendor management, and information security. Whatever choice you made about hosting, your examiner will trace it.

Advantage Systems has acknowledged in their own product notes that the original client-server architecture of AMB "did not lend itself to cloud computing". AMB 7 and the browser-based access layer fixed the remote-work problem, but the underlying SQL Server still wants a real Windows Server VM with the right disks, the right backup posture, and the right security baseline around it. That is what ABT delivers. A dedicated Azure server tuned for AMB. A single Microsoft Customer Agreement. One tenant. Two hops to Microsoft, not three.

Once your AMB is on Azure with us, the rest of your Microsoft footprint can follow on your timeline. Microsoft 365 in the same tenant. Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive consolidated under one identity boundary. Microsoft 365 Copilot ready when your team is ready. Guardian managed security watching the same tenant your AMB lives in. One identity. One audit trail. One vendor of record.

Three Controls Your Examiner Will Trace

Dedicated Server, Dedicated SQL

Your AMB install runs on a Windows Server VM dedicated to your institution. The SQL Server engine that holds your general ledger is not shared with another lender. No multi-tenant database with rows tagged by customer ID. When the examiner asks "who else is on this server," the answer is "nobody."

Tier 1 CSP, Tenant in Your Name

ABT is a Tier 1 Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (Direct-Bill) with a direct contract to Microsoft. Your Azure subscription is provisioned in your institution's name under your own Microsoft Customer Agreement. You own it. We operate it as your partner of record with delegated admin access you can revoke. When the examiner asks who owns the infrastructure your accounting data sits in, the answer is your institution.

Built for Mortgage Bankers and FI Lenders

Every control is configured to map to FFIEC, NCUA, FDIC, and OCC expectations out of the gate. AES-256 encryption at rest under SQL TDE. TLS 1.3 in transit. Microsoft Entra ID conditional access on every admin path. Microsoft Defender + Microsoft Sentinel monitoring your AMB tenant 24/7/365. Backup retention configurable to BSA, NCUA, and SAR record-keeping rules.

Hosting Partner Trust

Hosting AMB Accounting on Microsoft Azure

ABT hosts AMB Accounting on dedicated private Microsoft Azure for mortgage bankers and community bank lenders that need their general ledger and loan-level accounting environment running on auditable, examiner-ready infrastructure. AMB Accounting is published by Advantage Systems, Inc. in Irvine, California (founded 1991). ABT customers run AMB on Azure alongside their Microsoft 365 tenant, Teams, SharePoint, and Guardian managed security under a single Microsoft Customer Agreement.

Six Controls Behind Every AMB Tenant We Host

Every item below is configured before your AMB goes live. Architecture diagrams and control mappings are available under NDA when your IT team or auditor needs them.

Dedicated Azure Server

One Windows Server virtual machine sized to your AMB user count and transaction volume. Premium SSD OS disk. Standard SSD data disk sized per pricing tier. SQL Server runs locally on the VM, exactly the way Advantage Systems documents AMB to run.

Geo-Redundant Backup

Nightly backup to Cloud GRS storage with 16 nines durability across two Microsoft regions. Retention configurable to BSA (5 years), NCUA Appendix A vital records, and SAR rules (5 years from filing). Immutable backup vaults available for institutions with write-once-read-many retention policies.

Encryption + Key Management

AES-256 at rest under SQL Transparent Data Encryption. TLS 1.3 client-to-server. Customer-controlled keys in Azure Key Vault Premium. FIPS 140-3 Level 3 hardware-backed keys via Azure Managed HSM available on request. Your compliance officer holds the rotation and revocation rights, not us.

Detection + Monitoring

Microsoft Defender + Microsoft Sentinel correlation across the AMB host, identity, and email telemetry. Microsoft Entra ID conditional access on every admin path. Tokenator session-revocation guardrail on the privileged accounts that touch your AMB SQL. Guardian Managed Extended Detection and Response watching your tenant 24/7/365 from the United States.

Patching + Vulnerability Management

Microsoft Patch Tuesday updates land on your AMB host inside the Guardian advisory cadence. Critical CVEs on the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities list are patched inside the CISA-published deadline, not after it. The Guardian advisory feed publishes our patch posture and exception list on the same cadence Microsoft publishes the bulletins.

U.S. Support + Examiner Artifacts

U.S.-based 24/7/365 Microsoft-certified support. Not a help desk ticket queue routed offshore. Documented incident response runbook tailored to your institution. Forensic log retention so investigators have what they need on day one. If your examiner asks for it, we can hand you the artifact that proves it.

Move Your AMB to a Server You'd Actually Show an Examiner

One scope call. One cutover window your IT team picks. Two business days from green-light to live. Your AMB stays running on the old environment until the cutover. Loan officers, branch managers, and your accounting team log in to AMB on the new tenant the next morning.

ABT Private Azure vs Typical Shared Hosting

A side-by-side of the architectural questions every mortgage CFO and IT director should ask any AMB hosting provider before signing a contract.

Question Your IT Team Will Ask ABT Private Azure (Tier 1 CSP) Typical Shared / Colocation Hosting
Cloud platform Microsoft Azure direct-bill. ABT buys Azure straight from Microsoft. No reseller layer. AWS reseller chain or a colocation rack in someone else's data center. Two vendor relationships at the audit boundary.
Database tenancy Dedicated SQL Server inside your dedicated VM. No co-tenancy with another lender's general ledger. Multi-tenant SQL or shared rack where loan-level data is partitioned by row or schema. Examiners trace it.
Account ownership Your institution's name on the Microsoft Customer Agreement. Your Azure subscription. We operate it for you. The hosting vendor's name on the master cloud account. Your borrower data lives inside their account.
Encryption TLS 1.3, AES-256 SQL TDE, Azure Key Vault Premium. FIPS 140-3 Level 3 hardware-backed keys via Azure Managed HSM available on request. Often AES-128 or AES-256 with vendor-held keys. FIPS 140-3 hardware-backed key option rarely available.
Backup Nightly Cloud GRS backup with copies in two Microsoft regions. 16 nines durability. Retention configurable to BSA, NCUA, and SAR record-keeping rules. Nightly backup retained in a single facility, sometimes on tape rotated weekly. Geo-redundancy is a costly upgrade.
Pricing model Predictable per-tier hosting fee. Microsoft cloud usage is included, not billed back. No surprise overage charges. What you pay year one is what you pay year five. Per-user or per-seat pricing that scales unfavorably as you grow. Cloud usage often passes through with markup.
Support U.S.-based 24/7/365 Microsoft-certified engineers. One throat to choke for AMB, Microsoft 365, and Azure together. Business-hours help desk for AMB issues, separate vendor for cloud issues. Two ticket queues at 2 AM during a payment-batch failure.
Examiner artifacts Tier 1 CSP attestation, SOC 2 Type 2 (under NDA), control mappings to NIST CSF 2.0, FFIEC examiner-ready response packet. SOC 2 sometimes available. Control mappings often vendor-specific and not framework-aligned. Examiner trail goes through two vendors.

Questions Mortgage Bankers Ask Before They Move AMB to Azure

Every answer mirrors the FAQPage schema in this page's head HTML word for word. Your auditor can compare them directly.

How long does an AMB migration to private Azure take?

2 business days or less from green-light to live. The scope call defines the cutover window your IT team picks. Your existing AMB environment stays up the whole time. We provision the Azure subscription under your Microsoft Customer Agreement, install AMB on the new VM, and stage the database. Cutover happens during your maintenance window. Your accounting team logs in to AMB on the new tenant the next morning.

Do I have to move my Microsoft 365 to ABT to host AMB here?

No. AMB hosting is a standalone decision. Many of our customers host AMB with us for years before they consolidate Microsoft 365. The door is open for that conversation when you are ready. Once AMB is already with us, the move to a single Microsoft tenant covering AMB, Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, Guardian, and Microsoft 365 Copilot becomes a much easier yes.

Is this hosting officially endorsed by Advantage Systems?

ABT runs AMB Accounting on Microsoft Azure for shared customers. We coordinate with Advantage Systems on your install, your version upgrades, and your support cases the same way we would on-premises. Advantage Systems publishes their official partner list at mortgageaccounting.com/partners. We frame this page around what we deliver: a dedicated Azure server, examiner-ready controls, and one Microsoft Customer Agreement covering AMB, Microsoft 365, and your other Azure workloads.

What encryption standards does ABT use for AMB hosting?

AES-256 at rest under SQL Transparent Data Encryption. TLS 1.3 client-to-server. Customer-controlled keys in Azure Key Vault Premium. FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validated hardware-backed keys available on request via Azure Managed HSM. The AMB SQL database, the file shares, and the backups all use the same envelope. Your compliance officer holds the rotation and revocation rights, not us.

Is ABT's AMB hosting FFIEC examination ready?

Yes. The hosting environment is mapped to NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0, the post-FFIEC-CAT successor reference framework. Controls cover the six NIST CSF 2.0 functions: Govern, Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, Recover. The FFIEC retired the Cybersecurity Assessment Tool on August 31, 2025. NIST CSF 2.0 is the framework examiners now map community banks, credit unions, and mortgage lenders against. Environment-specific SOC 2 Type 2 attestation is provided to FI customers under NDA as part of standard due diligence.

How is this different from running AMB in our own data center?

On-premises AMB requires you to procure, patch, and lifecycle Windows Server hardware, the SQL Server license, the backup target, the network gear, and the physical security wrapping all of it. Your IT team owns every Patch Tuesday. ABT's Azure hosting hands all of that to a Tier 1 Microsoft CSP. Your AMB runs on dedicated Azure infrastructure with built-in storage redundancy, geo-redundant backup, Microsoft Defender, and Sentinel monitoring. You keep the ownership of the data and the Azure subscription. We carry the operational lift.

What's the backup retention story for AMB on Azure?

Nightly backup to Cloud Geo-Redundant Storage with copies in two Microsoft regions and 16 nines durability. Retention is configurable per institution. Bank Secrecy Act records retain for 5 years (31 CFR 1010.430). NCUA 12 CFR Part 749 Appendix A vital records retain permanently. Suspicious Activity Report records retain for 5 years from filing. Backup retention up to 10 years is supported, with immutable backup vaults available for institutions whose retention policy requires write-once-read-many guarantees.

Can we run AMB modules and integrations alongside it?

Yes. The AMB modules you license from Advantage Systems install on the same VM the way they would on-premises: General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, the Excel Reporting Tool add-in, the imaging module, and the web reports interface. Payment integrations with AMEX, AVID PAY, Chase, Wells Fargo, and other financial institutions continue to work. Connections to your loan origination system, payroll, and warehouse-line tools are configured during the scope call and re-validated post-cutover.

Who owns the Azure tenant and the AMB data?

Your institution. Always. ABT is the partner of record on your Microsoft Customer Agreement. Your Azure subscription, your Microsoft Entra ID tenant, your data, and your encryption keys belong to you. ABT operates the environment with delegated admin access you can revoke. The AMB database, the file shares, and the backups all live in your subscription. We never resell your storage, and we never read your encryption keys.

How quickly does ABT patch critical vulnerabilities on the AMB host?

Microsoft Patch Tuesday updates land on your AMB host inside the Guardian advisory cadence. Critical vulnerabilities on the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities list are patched inside the CISA-published deadline, not after it. As a recent example, April 2026 Patch Tuesday covered 167 CVEs including two actively exploited zero-days; managed tenants were patched inside the CISA KEV deadline. The Guardian advisory feed publishes our patch posture and exception list on the same cadence Microsoft publishes the bulletins.

Do you support AMB 7 browser-based access?

Yes. Advantage Systems shipped AMB 7 to give your accounting team browser-based access from the office, home, or branch locations without installing the full client. On Azure, AMB 7 runs against the same dedicated SQL backend, secured behind Microsoft Entra ID conditional access. Combined with Tokenator session-revocation guardrails on privileged accounts, the browser-based experience is examiner-ready out of the box. Multi-factor authentication is enforced on every AMB login.

Does ABT run other Microsoft workloads alongside AMB?

Yes. ABT is the largest Tier 1 Microsoft CSP serving financial institutions. We host Calyx PointCentral, run Microsoft 365 Copilot deployments, deliver Guardian Managed Extended Detection and Response, and operate MortgageExchange and DocumentGuardian for borrower documents - all in a single Azure tenancy when customers are ready to consolidate. 750+ financial institutions run their Microsoft services with us, across community banks, credit unions, and mortgage lenders. AMB hosting is the starting point. The rest of your Microsoft footprint can follow on your timeline.

How should I evaluate ABT versus other AMB hosting options?

Ask every provider four questions before you sign a contract. Where does my AMB SQL database physically live (private Microsoft Azure, AWS, or a colocation rack)? Is my SQL Server engine dedicated to my institution or shared with other lenders? What is the support staffing model (United States, Microsoft-certified, 24/7/365, or business hours through a help desk)? How is the relationship structured (Tier 1 Microsoft CSP direct-bill, or a reseller chain with two audit trails)? The comparison table above this FAQ walks through each of those questions. Bring those answers to your IT team and your auditor before you commit.
