Expect exciting things at the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) convention this year.

The MBA, the U.S.’s foremost real estate finance membership and advocacy group, holds a convention and expo event every year. Highly regarded and always well attended, 2018 will mark the 105th annual conference. This convention represents the country’s largest gathering of real estate finance professionals in the calendar year. This year’s event, to be held October 14-17 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center inside the Marriot Marquis, has been processing applications since the close of last year’s conference.

The event holds some 200+ exhibits from veteran and emerging mortgage industry professionals. Participants come to test and trade the latest products and services, build their networks, and attend educational sessions conducted by mortgage industry experts. MBA’s primary objective is to provide a framework for sharing the newest industry ideas related to the financing of commercial and residential real estate.

In keeping with 2018’s “Monumental” theme of the convention, attendees should expect a special focus on innovation and industry progress.

Exciting Guest Speakers

Last year’s convention featured guest speakers HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson and five-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning. The event was a success with CEOs, VPs, and Senior Managers of the residential sector’s top firms in attendance.

This year’s attendees can look forward to hearing from Former Chair of the Federal Reserve Dr. Janet L. Yellen and Senior Editor-At-Large of Fortune Magazine, Geoff Colvin. With a bend towards national finance, both will open a general session for the conference and will serve as moderators for discussion in the main conference hall.

Women’s Empowerment Summit

Attendees should also consider arriving in Washington D.C. a few days early to take advantage of the MBA’s Summit for Women in Real Estate Finance. The women’s summit is taking place one day before the convention on Saturday October 13, 2018 at 9am in the same building.

Entitled “mPowering You” this summit is designed to give women in the industry the chance to hear from top female executives and meet colleagues from all across the country. The summit will bring together women in the industry to address the most relevant challenges identified by women in the workplace and kickoff discussions a day ahead of time.

Innovative Tech Exhibits

Most exciting are this year’s exhibits in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, where attendees will interact and discuss the most compelling innovations from the mortgage industry last year.

The exhibit from Access Business Technologies (ABT) is sure to be a favorite. The California-based mortgage software developer was recently named to HousingWire’s 2018 Tech100, a list of the most innovative players in the U.S. housing industry.

ABT will show lending services platform MortgageWorkSpace and other tech developments that have earned them high industry praise in 2018. ABT representatives will be available at their booth to answer questions about their cloud-based software and why mortgage lenders love its accessibility while it still maintains unsurpassed security.

In a field that is highly susceptible to cyber attacks, this software is a must-see highlight of the convention.

To hear who else will be stationed there over the course of the week, attend the conference’s opening reception located in THE HUB on Sunday October 14, 2018 at 6pm. More electrifying exhibits and speakers will be revealed as the October 14th launch date approaches. Watch the hashtag #MBAAnnual18 on Twitter and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.
